HYMN FESTIVAL: SINGERS WANTED!
SUNDAY, November 23 | 11 AM
In a few weeks we will gather at SPC for worship in a particularly celebratory way: with a hymn festival! Festive and familiar hymns with brass and organ accompaniment will make this a service of extraordinary praise. For instance, imagine lifting your voices in this magnificent hymn arrangement:
Now imagine being part of the Festival Choir! If you’ve ever experienced choral singing where you come together for one exciting weekend of rehearsals and a concert, you know how joyful that can be. And this fall we are asking everyone who would like to participate in the choir to sign up for just two rehearsals and a Sunday service. Our regular choirs have not rehearsed this music. This is a separate event. Everyone who signs up will be given a packet of music and access to rehearsal tracks.
PRACTICE: Thursday, November 20, 7-9 PM
A great deal of the music is simply the familiar hymns in unison in which we will sing with the whole congregation, but the Festival Choir will add the “special sauce” with some verses in parts and some cool descants. There is also a piece featuring just treble voices, and another for mostly tenors and basses.
DRESS REHEARSAL: Saturday, November 22 | 10 AM-12 PM
We will meet and practice with brass and organ in the sanctuary. The next day we will meet at 10AM to warm up, and the service will be at 11AM.
November 23 just happens to be Christ the King Sunday, and there are several roof-raising hymns about the Kingship of Christ. We’ll sing “Lift High the Cross,” “The Church’s One Foundation,” “Jesus Shall Reign,” It Is Well with My Soul,” and others.
- Please let Michael Hammer know if you’d like to be a part of this exciting service! EMAIL: Michael Hammer
